When is the 2024 Hemingfords' Regatta?

Saturday 13th July 2024

Where is it held?

On the 'Regatta' field by the river between Hemingford Grey and Hemingford Abbots

What is the history of the regatta?

The first Hemingfords' Regatta was in 1901, making it the oldest village coxed regatta in the country

How do I get there (walking)?

You can access the field via the top of Hemingford Grey High Street - simply keep walking along the river, or by cutting across the field at Hemingford Abbots end. It can also be accessed from the road - there is pedestrian access from the 'S' bend near to the pavilion

Can I park?

Yes, you can park directly on the Regatta field. Please drive slowly and follow any marshals' instructions. Please do buy a programme to help follow the day and raise money for the Regatta to help keep this historic event going.

The entrance if arriving by car can be found by clicking on this link

What facilities are provided?

Soft drinks, teas, coffees, sandwiches and cakes are available throughout the day. There is also a bar and a BBQ running in the evening along with music. Toilet facilities are provided

Can I enter to race?

The regatta is for residents - adults and children - of both villages only, although some races are open to the old county of Huntingdonshire, pupils of Hemingford Grey Primary School (while attending) and/or by invitation. Please see the race section for more information

How do I enter for a race?

More information, including entry forms, are distributed throughout Hemingford Grey and Hemingford Abbots in May. The entry form is also available through a link on this site

Do I have to be able to row?

No. The day is about participating and having fun. But be warned, there are some competitive rowers!

Can I practice?

Yes. In the month preceding race day the committee arranges practice sessions where you can try rowing and coxing

Can I help?

Yes please - the regatta is run by a committee and many hands make light work! We are always particularly in need of adults - preferably villagers of children who will be entering to help on practice evenings. Please use the Contact Us page on this site
